Ein Patient der Martini Klinik wird von einem Pfleger über den Flur geführt

On the first day after your surgery, you will be accompanied by a nurse as you take a longer walk along the corridor. You can take a few walks up and down the corridor during the afternoon if you feel confident and ready.

Getting you back on your feet

It is normal to feel fatigued after the operation. Nevertheless, it is very important for your recovery that you get back on your feet as soon as possible. Physical activity will also have a positive impact on cardiovascular, pulmonary and gastrointestinal function as well as your metabolism. It also helps to prevent blood clots and makes a significant contribution to a swift recovery.

The UKE Physiotherapy team has also made some videos with exercises to assist with your mobilisation. These exercises help to strengthen muscles, improve lung function and prevent thrombosis. You can do them while lying down, sitting or standing. You can do these exercises as often as you wish and as much as your condition allows. As a rule, we recommend completing each exercise at least twice per day. However, make sure not to overexert yourself. If you have any questions, our nursing team and doctors at the Martini-Klinik will be happy to assist.

This programme was developed through an interdisciplinary cooperation with the Anaesthesiology Clinic at the University Medical Centre Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE).
