Successful therapy depends on age, surgical risk, growth rate of the tumor and personal circumstances as well as any concomitant illnesses of the patient. These criteria are considered during the first consultation with our prostate cancer specialists. Our specialists will provide reliable and extensive information about the various established therapies as well as their advantages or disadvantages.
Four scientifically tested treatment strategies, which we will introduce to you in detail, are available for the treatment of localized prostate cancer.
- The complete removal of the prostate (radical prostatectomy)
- by way of open surgery
- by way of a minimally-invasive operation (robot-assisted; da Vinci®)
- radiation therapy from outside through the skin (percutaneous radiation therapy)
- brachytherapy with permanent implantation (seeds) low dose rate (LDR) or temporary implantation high dose rate (HDR)
- active surveillance
The Martini-Klinik has extensive experience in each of the four therapy options. We have carried out 2,000 prostatectomies annually since 2011. In 2013, every third patient chose the minimally-invasive operation method. Over 200 patients chose radiation therapy, and over 100 men are currently under our active surveillance. Open surgery is the most frequently performed operation.
